WELCOME BACK!

Hello,
We are back in the swing of things after a lovely, relaxing summer. So far the students have completed their pre-assessment for reading and writing and we are in full review mode. Here are the updates for each class:

Language Arts
This week we are focusing on literary elements and terms. Through song we have reinforced the 5 elements of a short story. If your student would like to practice at home they can find the songs here: www.flocabulary.com .  We practiced our plot maps by reading Edgar Allan Poe's Tell-Tale Heart  and we are diving right into the variety of conflicts that can take place in literature.
Reminders:
-Students have a Greek roots quiz on Friday. Don't forget to study!
-Cirriculum Night for parents is next Thurday, August 29th from 6-7pm. Don't miss it! There will be lots of fantastic information about what you and you child can expect to learn this year.

Honors
This week we began our thematic unit on persuasion. We discussed the notion of 'change' and analyzed Robert Frost's The Road Not Taken. We also had our first Socratic seminar around it which was very exciting. Students will continue to work from their William and Mary packets focusing on poems this week.
Reminders:
-Students should complete their Response Journal by Friday. In the poem, Frost says that "way leads on to way," suggesting that the choices we make leasd us to different choices later on. Describe a time in your life when a choice you made led you to taking another, unexpected path.
-Cirriculum Night for parents is next Thurday, August 29th from 6-7pm. Don't miss it! There will be lots of fantastic information about what you and you child can expect to learn this year.
